This bespoke coffee table was commissioned with the specific vision for it to be designed around a Grayson Perry scarf already owned by the client. She wanted to be able to view the scarf whilst keeping it safe within a table. The brief also stipulated that the design of the furniture reflected particular elements found in the scarf.
To this end, the scalloped apron mirrors the wavy edge of the scarf. There is also a subtle pink line painted in the rebate that sits between the table top and the apron and legs. The top section was designed to be removable as well for ease of storage.
The silk scarf was sewn onto inert, conservation-grade fabric and this was then stretched over a hardwood frame and fitted into the table top from underneath.
Made from ash with a toughened glass surface.
